Your carpet will last longer and look better by following the following three basic rules of carpet care and maintenance:
- Vacuum your new carpet regularly
- Remove any spills to your new carpet immediately
- Have your new carpets professionally cleaned as required (usually every year or two)
About Hoovering / Vacuuming
Vacuuming effectively is the most important maintenance practice that will help maintain the look of your new carpet for longer. Regular and thorough vacuuming - as a minimum once a week - and more frequent attention in the areas that people walk most (heavy traffic areas) will help to remove the dust, soil and dirt particles before they become embedded into the fabric (pile) of your new carpet.
Best Vacuum Cleaner to Use?
The most efficient and effective type of vacuum cleaner to use (IOHO) is an upright vacuum cleaner with rotating 'beating bar' and brush. Adjust the height of the vac head so that the brushes just about touch the carpet
Caring For Your New Carpet: Do's and Don'ts
- DO move the vacuum cleaner slowly - this will allow time to remove soil particles etc.
- DO ensure that the dust bag is never more than half full
- DO begin vacuuming the day the carpet is newly laid
- DON'T use self-adjusting vacuum cleaners; they often adjust deep into the carpet pile and will cause breakage to the carpet fibres causing fuzziness
Remember you cannot over vacuum!
